Ian Dryden
Head Coach
Ian is a towering presence in the world of rowing—a coach whose name resonates with excellence, discipline, and transformation. With a career that stretches across continents and institutions, he has left a lasting imprint on every programme he’s touched, from Cambridge to the banks of the Yarra and the school boats of England.
At Cambridge University Boat Club, from 1994 to 2001, he helped steer Cambridge’s Blue Boats to a resurgence.
In Australia he lead Mercantile Rowing Club to national titles across multiple boat classes and rekindling its competitive fire. Ian became Director of Rowing at Canford School in 2005 where he coached by Henley boats and junior internationals.

Jonathon
Carr-Brown
Lead Sculling Coach
Jonathon is an accomplished rower with years of experience in competitive rowing at Durham University and London RC. As the Lead Sculling Coach at BUBC, he brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise to the training programs, ensuring that every member receives top-notch guidance to excel in the sport. He stepped down as Head Coach in 2025 after 15 years and placing BUBC in the top twenty of British Rowing Universities.

Kath
Coleman-Jones
Lead Coastal Coach
Kath is a British Rowing coach currently working on a project to create a GB Beach Sprint Performance and Development Academy in Bournemouth and Poole.
She learned to coastal row in Southampton and represented England in the first Home International Beach Sprints. She is on a mission to find a future Olympic Beach Sprint gold medalist from Bournemouth University.

Robert Way
Assistant Coach
Robert is an aspiring coach. His rowing career includes stroking Canford School's first eight at Henley and rowing for Sheffield University. He has successfully steered novice crews to BUCs finals in his first two years of coaching

Pem Paddick
Assistant Coach
Pem started rowing at Bournemouth University and over the years has notched up multiple wins as a coastal and river rower. She is also an accomplished coxswain. She recently returned to masters rowing and coaching.
She is also a Hants & Dorset racing Umpire and focuses on teaching novice men.

Keith Jackman
Session Coach
Meet Keith, he's old, loud and can pierce your eardrum with one whistle. His passion is nurturing raw talent and ensuring outings are fun. Experienced rower and coach from Kingston RC with more than 40 years experience of rowing and coaching at an elite level.

Rob Morgan
Finishing Coach
Rob is one of the best technical coaches in the world. He is a dedicated coach who brings energy, enthusiasm and laughter to the training sessions. His experience has been gained as a GB, Leander, Shiplake College and Reading University Coach and years of rowing for Upper Thames RC and Durham University. He works with our elite crews in the run-up to Henley Women's and Henley Royal Regatta.

Andy Galloway
Session Coach
Andy is still one of the UK's top veteran rowers. He doesn't like losing. He learned to row in the Army and helps out at BUBC's annual Chester Training Camp and when ever he can during the year. He's also an engineer and medic who can fix anything - including tanks!
